Hollywood A listers flock to Cannes after election of film fan president
The excitement surrounding the election of President Macron is set to make the 70th Cannes Film Festival the most money making event ever, as stars flock to the Riviera resort of the opening of the most glamourous film festival in the world.
Emmanuel Macron is reported to be a keen ally of the arts, and of film in particular. His former drama teacher wife Brigitte is expected to attend the 12-day Festival, which is expected to boost the economy by as much as £170 million.
Last year the festival was hit by heavy thunderstorm, security fears and a seeming indifference from Hollywood A listers. However this year bright sunshine is forecast for the rest of the festival. Unfortunately the festival is still subject to sold-out hotels and luxury hotel suites going for an amazing £35,000 a night.
British hopes rest on “You Were Never really Here”, starring Joaquin Phoenix, but faces stiff competition for Sophia Coppola’s “The Beguiled” for the coveted Palme d’Or award.
